Our Executive Director, Nydia Martinez, along with Antonella Díaz, ESL Program Coordinator, and Darryl Morin, Board Member, participated in the National Gathering organized by the Hispanic Federation, which recently took place in Washington, D.C.
The event brought together leaders and allies from across the United States and Puerto Rico with the goal of analyzing policies, initiatives, and strategies aimed at closing the digital divide affecting Latino communities. Throughout the day, successful community-based approaches to improving digital access were presented, discussions were held with representatives from federal and state agencies on the advancement of public investments in digital equity, and concrete actions were explored to strengthen workforce training in digital environments.
Among the event’s highlights was a conversation with Commissioner Anna Gomez, the first Latina woman to hold that position on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in over two decades. There were also panels on rural connectivity, the implementation of funds from the Digital Equity Act, and the impact of artificial intelligence on workforce development.
A participatory session was also held, where representatives from various organizations shared experiences, challenges, and proposals around digital training in Latino communities. The exchange of ideas helped identify effective practices and areas for improvement in community technology training and professional development programs.
Participation in this space allowed our organization to strengthen collaboration with other nonprofit entities, as well as with public and private institutions, to continue advancing strategies that improve digital access and job opportunities in our communities.
